Hi every one my Name is Victor Oghen, a.k.a Lebron Bosini, and author of this blog. I wanna share with us, a little something out of my little knowledge within my small stay in this life, something I view to be important for the growth and development of every young person and elderly, living in South Africa. I'd love to share the concept of "Individual gift, skill or talent" whether acquired or natural. this article is a little long but worth it, enjoy.
I come from a country where nobody cares about your story, until you achieve something great with your life. I'm sure its some worth the same story here as well. We complain about our governments not giving us enough of what we need, like jobs for example. Its hard some times to take care of our selves and some are unable to go through the normal system of schooling, getting a job and fending for our selves and loved ones. As a result, many of us young men have children we are unable to support as we would want to, others due to hardship and shame, totally abandon our responsibilities for the mothers of these kids alone and "vai into thing air".
No doubt there's something wrong with the structure of our society and many of us look to the government to rectify the problems. As part of efforts to see that our problems are solved, we regularly go into large protests to vent out frustration, that the voices of the suffering be heard. But I wanna say to us, that its some times a good idea, to adopt a mind set of self sufficiency. Whether we believe it or not, we all were born with peculiar gifts deposited within us by the Creator. In his purpose, he designed that we all bring our individual gifts and level of abilities to the table in exchange, one with the other, for the progressive betterment of the community as a whole.
I always say "the financial problems of man started the day they chose to invent money" however its okay my friends as your talent can always be converted to what you need (Money).
Some one once told me that the system that was mentally installed into the Afro community by the imperialist government back in the day, was one which mainly encouraged education in the area of specific trades like medicine, engineering, law and a few other vocational studies. In this system, the Black communities were not encouraged in artisan vocational studies and trade. As a result, if you were unable to go through school, you end up with no skill so to say. according to him, this is why today we have very few Black Africans who engage in such handy works which could have been a major source of financial empowerment for them, much like their other African counterparts.
In as much as my findings concerning the above statement are correct, I believe we have a new Generation of people growing fast in South Africa, and to that effect we must be willing to cultivate as young people a new mind set, and the habit of learning.
It no doubt is important to have basic educational experience, however education in my opinion does not necessarily make you a learned individual or smart either. your ability to improvise in life by taking what you have and making it into what you need, is truly what makes you smart and learned.
The Push and request for financial empowerment schemes (means by which young people can learn how to be financially independent e.g arts and crafts, music, technical craftsmanship e.t.c) could be a liberating avenue for the youth. If such schemes are made available by the government, we must take advantage of these avenues, irrespective of educational backgrounds. If young people must protest, Schemes as such, should be at the fore front of whatever protests any young individual should engage in, as this bothers immensely on he's or her future. hence the saying ' Teach us to fish, not give us fish" don', this should be our new motto as youths.
On another front, growing up there must be something positive as a boy or a girl, woman or man, you must have noticed your pairs admired you for. Its time to put them down in writing and see how you can turn such skills into a small money making avenue for you as long as its legal. You might look down on that idea which crossed your mind a while back, but some one else might get that idea and decide to build on it and make their dreams come through in the process. Never look down on an idea, as ideas are gifts to us all and how we use them determine our progress and that of our collective communities.
What do we need to do now?
Its time to build up courage, as with out it, fear binds us. What you need to be great is within you. The greatest limitation of mankind, is fear; with fear you have two choices, either you submit to it, or you spurn it like a web and use it to your advantage. Let it keep you in check, but make sure to build courage out of it and make a move today.
- Follow the steps of other young South Africans who have taken courage in achieving their dreams alone.
- Try out that gift you have within you,
- see how your gift can solve the problems of others;
- Make money out of your gift;
- Humility: we must humble our selves, with patience, be willing to learn something new every day, something you admire in a friend or stranger; it just might be your key to financial success.
- Remember it is never too late to learn, you too can join the league of young African successful individuals, financially and otherwise.
